Back to Dolce Vita
After amazing summer in Zurich was coming to the end, it was time to prolong it a bit and the logic choice was Italy – where the summer and Dolce Vita almost never ends.
And as I was invited to a wedding on the Amalfi coast, I decided to go for one way ticket.
To sum up – Amalfi coast would be great, if it would be less touristic.
However Napoli is still the Real Deal – trash everywhere, shady but funny people, the best mozzarella di buffala, amazing pizza margheritta and another little magic – EVERYTHING is possible in Napoli, like jumping to little groceries store and suddenly they organize a full lunch for you and even arrange a seating in the middle of the streets .
Remember – Naples is CRAZY. And there are many reasons why…. Scooters flying like mad on the super narrow streets of old town, but still managing to write sms with one hand and eat sandwich with the other, and the helmets… well helmets in Naples exists only in case it’s “too cold in the evening”.
People will try to full you everywhere – there is no written prices here and receipts – prices always depends on how you look (so always try to look as scruffy as possible), and if you are not Italian be ready to pay at least 3 times more – arguing is not recommended here.
If at the end you decide to to visit quartieri spagnoli – don’t forget to leave everything valuable at home, they will notice even more expensive sneakers.
However let’s speak about Naple’s pizza… There is only one expression to describe it – oooh (to pronounce like orgasmic “oooh”) the pizza!! And I’m definitely not the pizza fan, but Margherita with mozzarella di buffala in Naples it’s a piece of heaven – just no touristic place, for real taste go to that dirty looking pizzeria where the real Napoletani goes. About mozzarella di buffalla I could write a full chapter – there is never enough of it, wherever I would see Cheese shop I would grab some and eat it on spot.
I have been in foodie’s paradise and it’s called Naples. Starting from pizza, seafood, fresh mozzarella di buffalla, baba and other sweets… And COFFEE!! Naples is the place for coffee.
Let’s not forget the wedding too – it was a total food coma.
After exploring Naples city we moved on to Amalfi coast – it’s simply stunning, but we are simply 50 years too late.
After we decided to settle in Vico Equense – the less touristic spot we managed to find around. In the most crazy hidden giant hotel we discovered – and God knows, I love nice hotels. For the moment I really felt like back to 60s Italian Dolce vita.
However the beach in Vico Equence can be enjoyable only from the terrace or from the boat… Much better choice – Bikini beach just next door – simply elegant upscale beach paradise.
